We are pleased to report that the CTG Master Class meeting was attended by 50 participants from Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It was the second time Sahlgrenska University Hospital, with the initiator Håkan Norén, arranged the CTG Master Class in collaboration with Neoventa Medical. The CTG Master Class was highly appreciated by obstetricians and midwives.
There is a paradigmatic shift in assessment of fetal heart monitoring. Obstetricians and midwives have been trained to focus on a structured CTG classification like decelerations etc. rather than to understand the psychological mechanisms, how the fetus compensates and defends itself. As a consequence operative interventions are done to rescue fetuses showing benign and positive signs of fetal heart adaptation to different event in labour. This is exactly what CTG Master Class is aimed at, understanding fetal physiology and to understand pathophysiology behind the patterns that are observed on the CTG trace and to determine fetal response to hypoxic and mechanical stresses that occur in labour.
The next CTG Master class at Sahlgrenska University Hospital will be on the 22nd -23rd of May. Don’t miss the chance to attend this event, there are still a few available vacancies!
