Long-term use of the STAN Method published in AJOG

A prospective observational study, consisting of 42,146 deliveries during a study period 2001-2011 at Turku University Hospital in Finland. The authors, Susanna Timonen and Kajsa Holmberg, provide evidence that there is a learning curve and give improved results over time. After the initial implementation period there were a decrease in the rates of metabolic acidosis and operative deliveries.

STAN clinical guidelines and the new FIGO CTG classification system

In 2015 the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) presented a new classification system for interpretation of intrapartum CTG, replacing the old system from 1987. The new system is a 3-tier classification system instead of a 4-tier, where the preterminal CTG class has been omitted. Furthermore, the definitions of tachycardia and decelerations, and time durations of abnormal variability have been changed. All this with the aim to create a simple and more objective CTG classification system.

STAN and the new FIGO consensus guidelines on intrapartum CTG monitoring

The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) presented in 2015 an updated intrapartum CTG classification system to replace the system from 1987. The CTG classification used in the STAN CTG+ST interpretation algorithm is basically a modified version of the FIGO 1987 classification system. The new FIGO system differs from the CTG classification used with STAN in the definitions of a normal FHR baseline, normal variability, variable decelerations, repetitiveness of decelerations, and the number of CTG classes. The new FIGO …
